Adolescent Psychology

Adolescent Psychology

Adolescence is a period of development that generally covers the age range of 12-18 years. The most prominent characteristic of this period is the search for identity and body perception.

Adolescents find it difficult to accept their rapidly changing bodies and to understand the destruction of their childhood body perception. For this reason, they may have insecurities or negative thoughts about their body. Also during this period, the adolescent searches for identity.

As he/she starts to move away from his/her family, he/she tries to gain a role in the social life outside.

In this process, parents should support all these efforts of the adolescent and should not isolate him/her.

If the adolescent feels lonely, he/she may become depressed and this may make his/her search process even more difficult.

When parents cannot cope with such situations, they should consult a specialist.
