A family counselor tries to regulate the individual and family relationships of the individuals that creates a whole which is the family, mother, father, children. It tries to organize the solutions for the problems experienced in the family in accordance with the dynamics and values of that family by developing the resources of the family. It plays an important role in the restructuring and improvement of emotional, social, familial, traditional, duties and responsibilities in the family. In family counseling, all members of the family are invited to the sessions both together and individually. In these sessions, counselor stays at the same distance from all family members and helps the family to be a family that listens and tries to understand each other by breaking their prejudices, impatience, and anger towards each other. Family counseling is a structure that requires expertise. There are many psychological disciplines in family counseling.
Pedagogue is whom studies child and adolescent psychology and examines emotional, mental and social development of children and adolescents. By planning these studies with parents, they also provide therapy and counseling to parents when necessary. The developmental process that starts from birth continues with genetic, environmental, and family effects. It supports the correct management of these processes and the scientific solution of the problems that arise, and creates an environment that the person can live happily, peacefully, creatively and aware of their own abilities. Until 1984, there was a pedagogy department in Turkey. With the new law, this section was closed, and its content was changed to PDR (psychological counseling and guidance department).
Psychology is a science that comes out of philosophy that studies human behavior and mind. It examines the origins and causes of our feelings and thoughts. Psychology has a very comprehensive analytical structure. Although psychology is a social science, it is also called natural science. It operates in the fields of psychology, social, clinical, developmental, organizational-industrial psychology, experimental psychology and forensic psychology. It covers all these processes that continue from the birth of a person to the end of his/her life. Physical development of a person also affects person’s spiritual development and afterwards spiritual development affects physical development. The causes of human behavior encompass more than just the structures of one lives, it is s exposed to, and witnesses to events. It focuses on the relationship and dissociation between emotions and behaviors.
Psychologist is experts who have graduated from psychology department from becoming psychologists and start counseling. As we mentioned above, since human behavior is a very complex structure, psychologists start working in their fields of specialization by taking postgraduate and psychotherapy training after their undergraduate education in order to do therapy. Psychology is an ever-evolving construct. There is psychology in family, school, street, workplace, factory, field, technology, in short, wherever people are we can see psychology. Because where there are people, there is a pattern of emotion and behavior.
